I remember when I came to live in Cumbria 12 years or so ago and started talking to local businesses about the Internet and the value of web sites. I also recall the looks on some people’s faces as they obviously thought I had come from another planet. Well, we are now back in that same situation but with cloud computing, web collaboration tools, and social media.
There are very few business that could not benefit by adopting a mix and match approach to the new technologies. Let’s take a really off the wall example and take the local butcher. Using point of sale material Bill The Bone Butcher lets his customers know that the store will be promoting various special offers via SMS and Twitter – all details of the Twitter account are included in the POS material and customers are asked to drop their mobile phone numbers into a sealed box for inclusion on Bill The Bone’s database. One day Bill finds that the venison burgers aren’t exactly flying off the shelf – may it was because they were showing Bambi at the local cinema – so he sends out SMS messages and issues a Tweet to say that for all customers who call between 2 and 4pm on the following day will receive a 15% discount to people who show the check out girl the SMS or Tweet. Similar discount offers – not just for Bambiburgers – will strengthen customer loyalty.
Okay, that’s a slightly bizarre example, but it shows it can work almost regardless of your business. You can build strong brand awareness on Facebook by reinforcing key messages to new and existing customers without reverting to telling everyone what you had for breakfast.
If you are a small but growing company wishing to explore cloud computing potential for online collaboration with remote workers or wish to discuss alternatives to expensive office suits for example, contact Web2 and More. We can have an initial email, MSN, telephone or teleconference chat and take it from there.
