Hot on the heels of my review of Toodledo and Remember the Milk, here we look at another on-line task manager – Task.fm. Like the previous two task managers reviewed Task.fm can be as simple or as sophisticated as you want to make it. Reminders are sent either via email or via sms messages to your mobile phone – if you are using the free account you get just five sms reminders a month, but more of the paid for options later.
Task.fm is easy to set up, with reminders being sent to the email account you set up and you have the option of getting messages in HTML or plain text. In the set up options you can set up other options such as when and how you want the reminders to come. At its simplest you just type the reminder into the relevant boxes and that’s it – the reminder comes in via email or sms within the scheduled time.
In the advanced settings you can add extra items such as tags, schedule tasks as repeated items and send to groups or contacts.
For the paltry sum of $3.99 a month you don’t get the adverts, which quite honestly aren’t that intrusive, you get unlimited sms reminders and unlimited contacts and groups – in the free version you are limited to 100 contacts and 10 groups – and create reminders via text.
And that, basically, is Task.fm in a nutshell. It you want a system that is simplicity itself, it’s worth checking out.
Edited to add: Anthony Feint of Task.fm commented on the earlier post: “Task.fm is more for sending reminders and notifications rather than being used as a Task manager. The name is probably misleading. And besides I think RTM is playing catch up – voice calls, and worldwide sms alerts are still missing.”
