Task Management Doesn’t Get Simpler Than Task.fm

Task.fm - at its simplest

Hot on the heels of my review of Toodledo and Remember the Milk, here we look at another on-line task manager – Task.fm. Like the previous two task managers reviewed Task.fm can be as simple or as sophisticated as you want to make it. Reminders are sent either via email or via sms messages to your mobile phone – if you are using the free account you get just five sms reminders a month, but more of the paid for options later.

Task.fm is easy to set up, with reminders being sent to the email account you set up and you have the option of getting messages in HTML or plain text. In the set up options you can set up other options such as when and how you want the reminders to come. At its simplest you just type the reminder into the relevant boxes and that’s it – the reminder comes in via email or sms within the scheduled time.

The advanced options in Task.fm

In the advanced settings you can add extra items such as tags, schedule tasks as repeated items and send to groups or contacts.

For the paltry sum of $3.99 a month you don’t get the adverts, which quite honestly aren’t that intrusive, you get unlimited sms reminders and unlimited contacts and groups – in the free version you are limited to 100 contacts and 10 groups – and create reminders via text.

And that, basically, is Task.fm in a nutshell. It you want a system that is simplicity itself, it’s worth checking out.

Edited to add: Anthony Feint of Task.fm commented on the earlier post: “Task.fm is more for sending reminders and notifications rather than being used as a Task manager. The name is probably misleading. And besides I think RTM is playing catch up – voice calls, and worldwide sms alerts are still missing.”

  • Why would they name it Task.fm if it's not for tasks? Looks intriguing, but possibly unnecessary?
  • Thanks for the info. I am on the lookout for something better because my current system is having more senior moments than I am.
  • I've gone beyond senior moments and am having senior hours!
  • Sounds simple enough that even a Gordie could use it. :)
  • Go on, surprise yourself and give it a go :-)
  • Sounds like a nice package, Kevin. Thanks for this review.
I use my Blackberry quite a bit for reminders, but this can be added to my toolkit as well. Plus, I like to try out new software and the likes just to stay up with what is available.

Think I will test drive this. :-)
  • Anthony the developer says it is more of a reminder system than task manager but if you have senior moments like me it could be invaluable to jog the memory :-)
  • As I work with more consultant and employee teams - where we are only together for a short time each week, these tools are great. Thanks for the review.
  • Hi Kate, Happy New Year to you. Glad the review was helpful.
  • I'd better have a look - although it will have to go some to be better than RTM.
  • I could do with a good task manager. But at the moment don't move around so much that I need to be off line.
But I can certainly see the benefits for the likes of business people who are more mobile. Think of on the road sales people, etc.
