Almost the end of another year and it has been six months since Web2 and More was launched in July. As explained elsewhere I had done a token blog on cloud computing and Web 2.0 technologies but in July I decided to make an honest blog of it, give it its own domain name and spend some time and effort building it up. In that six months there have been over 100 posts and newcomers to the Web2 and More community may not have had the time to go back through the entire collection, so I thought I’d highlight some of the posts I feel make good reading and were generally helpful.
Why I Wouldn’t Buy An iPhone
One of the earliest blogs drew a bit of flaming because I outlined why I would never consider buying an iPhone. The main objection was that Apple had inserted a kill switch into the phone that would remove anything on your phone that it objected to. Steve Jobs was forced to admit the switch’s existence and came out with a lame excuse to justify it but I remain solid on the fact that if I buy a piece of kit it is my decision what goes on to the phone, not the manufacturers. Online Storage and Backup Services
One of the more in depth series of articles on Web2 and More deal with online storage and backup services which covered:
In looking at this sector I had a nasty experience with iDrive which apparently had blocked off some ports which barred me from accessing password protected sites. The story can be read here
Online Diary Service Tungle – Great Idea.
Every now and again you come across a service that really rocks. Tungle is such a service and it makes me sad I am not a part of a huge global virtual network so that I could use this on a daily basis. The review can be read here.
Interviews with Industry Players
Over the months Web2 and More has carried interviews with some of the major players in the cloud sector. These have included:
- Pavel Bondarchuck from Cloudberry Labs
- Marc Gingras at Tungle
- Sahil Parikh at DeskAway
- Mike Levinson at Wizehive
- Raju Vegesna of Zoho
Flights Of Fancy
Every now and again I’d go off on a peripheral loop and write articles about cloud computing in general and these included:
- A Brief Analysis Of Cloud Computing, Oil Tankers & Jetskis
- Thinking Of Using The Cloud – The Triple S Audit
- A Brief Guide For Cloud Computing Virgins
- Why I Don’t Care About Cloud Computing Technology
- Cloud Security, Castration And Pavlov’s Dogs
- How I Keep My Cloud Data Safe For $10 A Month
Book Reviews
I have only managed to get two of these done this year but it is something I want to do more of in 2010. These reviews were:
And that’s about it. Of course there is substantially more but that gives a round up of what I think was relevant for the first months of the site’s existence.
