Despite ongoing concerns about security and outages cloud computing has seen a 320 per cent increase in adoption between the start of the year and the end of September . Far from holding back the adoption of new technology as has happened in the past, the recession is fuelling adoption of new cloud based facilities as a means of saving money.
The report from Avanade reveals that among the 500 companies in 17 countries interviewed there was no cut backs on investment in cloud computing services. Interestingly resistance to cloud computing is falling. In the first three quarters of 1009, the number of businesses with no plans for cloud based services fell from 54 to 37 per cent. In the USA alone, 23 per cent of respondents said they were planning and testing for the take up of cloud packages.
On a global level more than two thirds of companies interviewed said that they were already using some sort of cloud based service but worryingly one third reporting having suffered outages that had cost them one day’s business productivity.
