We have been expecting this. It had to come. Microsoft did mention that they would make MS Office 2010 vailable online to their userbase.
As Gordie suggeests, a lot is going on, especially since IBM banned MS Office,

This is interesting in that it coincides with IBM banning their employees from using MS products. MS must be feeling the squeeze. I think MS needs to consolidate on their core apps and quit making web browsers anymore for a start.
