Most of us use software to make our lives easier or to introduce an element of enjoyment or – dare I say it – fun into our working and social lives.
In a professional role I guess most of our calendar and tasking processes involves Outlook, especially if we work in a corporate environment. If we move away from the Microsoft offering there are stacks of other alternatives such as Time and Chaos (which in my view is dead in the water unless it embraces Google Calendar and other iCalendar formats) Google Calendar, Remember the Milk. ToDoist and so on.
Now it is possible to incorporate very simply RTM stuff into Google Calendar but any decent online interaction with all this stuff requires tabbing from software option to software option. This is, to put it into Net vernicular, a PITA!
That is all in the past with Rainlendar that consolidates all iCalendar possibilities, Google Calendar, Outlook and, with the latest beta, Remember the Milk. Rainlendar sits on the desktop and through its opacity settings can remain almost invisible until you mouse over. From Rainlendar desktop you can add or amend tasks in RTM or Outlook and add or amend events in Google Calendar or Outlook – and probably the Mac offerings of which I have no knowledge.
Rainlendar is very customisable and you can prettify it through the multitude of skins that are available, including one that shows the phases of the moon which, no doubt stops you having to look at the hair growing on your hands and the fangs lengthening at each full moon!
There are two “flavours” to Rainlendar – free and the Pro version which adds the added Outlook and GCal functionality for just under ten Euros – that’s the equivalent of three pints in my local. For this relative pittance Rainlendar acts as a hub that controls all of your diary and tasking needs and it is something that anyone serious about consolidating these processes should investigate.
